Finding 1: Almost nobody publishes their price

Of 2,816 teams we track, only 164 list what they cost anywhere public. That is about 6%. For most DFW families, the real price of a season only surfaces after a tryout, in a parent meeting or a group chat. If you have ever felt like you were shopping blind, you were.

Finding 2: Families walk into tryouts blind

Of the 29 tryouts currently scheduled across DFW, 26 give a family no way to learn the season cost before showing up. That is 90%. The price usually surfaces after a player has already made the team, in a parent meeting or a group chat. Fees here mean anything a family can find: a posted tryout fee or any published season cost.

Finding 3: When prices are public, the spread is enormous

Among the 164 teams that do publish costs:

• 23 are free or effectively free (rec and association ball)
• 87 list $500 or less per season
• 14 land between $501 and $1,500
• 38 land between $1,501 and $3,000
• 2 list more than $3,000, topping out around $4,000

The middle of the published range sits near $170, but that number hides the split: association ball clusters low while select programs commonly run 10 to 20 times that. "Travel baseball" is not one product or one price.

Teams describe fees differently, some seasonal, some monthly, so treat the spread as a range, not an invoice.

Finding 4: The tryout window is short

29 tryouts are currently posted across DFW. 10 of them happen in September and the calendar thins fast after that (October: 2). If your player needs a team, the window is now, and it closes quickly.

Finding 5: 12U is the most contested age

Upcoming tryouts by age group: 12U leads with 7, then 14U (0), 13U (5), 10U (3), 11U (2). Activity crests at 12U, the point where select play intensifies and rosters reshuffle most, then tapers into the high school ages.

Finding 6: The map is wide open

The 29 posted tryouts come from 23 different teams in 11 cities. No single club dominates. For a family, that means real choice, and a real search problem.
