What Select Baseball Actually Costs in DFW: The 2026 Tryout Report
Tryout Radar tracks 2,633 youth baseball teams across 179 DFW cities. This is what the 2026 tryout season looks like from that data.
Finding 1: Almost nobody publishes their price
Of 2,633 teams we track, only 160 list what they cost anywhere public. That is about 6%. For most DFW families, the real price of a season only surfaces after a tryout, in a parent meeting or a group chat. If you have ever felt like you were shopping blind, you were.
Finding 2: When prices are public, the spread is enormous
Among the 160 teams that do publish costs:
- 23 are free or effectively free (rec and association ball)
- 82 list $500 or less per season
- 13 land between $501 and $1,500
- 39 land between $1,501 and $3,000
- 3 list more than $3,000, topping out around $4,000
The middle of the published range sits near $170, but that number hides the split: association ball clusters low while select programs commonly run 10 to 20 times that. "Travel baseball" is not one product or one price.
Teams describe fees differently, some seasonal, some monthly, so treat the spread as a range, not an invoice.
Finding 3: Tryout season is a July sprint
134 tryouts are currently posted across DFW. 40 of them, roughly 30%, happen in July. August drops to 56 and the calendar thins fast after that. If your player needs a team, the window is now, and it closes quickly.
Finding 4: 12U is the most contested age
Upcoming tryouts by age group: 12U leads with 24, then 14U (16), 13U (9), 10U (14), 11U (13). Activity crests at 12U, the point where select play intensifies and rosters reshuffle most, then tapers into the high school ages.
Finding 5: The map is wide open
The 134 posted tryouts come from 97 different teams in 26 cities. No single club dominates. For a family, that means real choice, and a real search problem.
